On New Year's Eve 2024, the next, forty-fourth, issue of the magazine «Lifelong Education: The 21st Century» is published. The problems of the articles presented in it are diverse, relating to both professional and general education.

The problem of interaction between educational institutions and employers continues to remain in the focus of attention. It is no secret that a considerable part of higher school graduates get jobs outside their major, both immediately after graduation and after trying to work in their professional training profile.

The reasons for this phenomenon are different, among them the most obvious are: a lack of vacant jobs due to the discrepancy between the number of graduates and the needs of the labor market. Not only that reason should be taken in account, but also the insufficient practical readiness of graduates to work within  their major, and this fact hinders and complicates their professional adaptation too. The last reason is relevant, first of all, for practical professions (engineer, teacher, social worker, etc.).

The articles in the issue offer the following ways to solve the problem based on cooperation between educational institutions and employers: close study of human capital reproduction for the new economy of the Arctic region, implementation of a model for the development of scientific, technical and engineering education in the region, and effective training future teachers for educational work with schoolchildren.

Another pressing problem of modern general and vocational education is teaching foreign languages. In the changed geopolitical conditions, there are changes in the motivation of Russians to study foreign languages, priorities in choosing foreign languages are changing, and this fact is being taken into consideration by some universities. Several articles in the issue are devoted to the methodology of foreign language education, not only traditional teaching of English and French, but also Chinese.

About other articles in the issue. Organizers of student project activities may be interested in a publication about the creation of a developing educational environment based on a project office at school, ensuring interaction between schoolchildren and teachers. Specialists preparing future engineers may find the article on the integration of mobile technologies in engineering education useful, and those who study the lexicon of education may find it helpful for constructing the concept of «end-to-end training» methodology.

We thank all the authors, reviewers and readers who have been with us over the past year.

In the coming year 2024, we wish everyone professional success and new discoveries on the path of continuous education.
