THE EDITORIAL

The fortieth issue concludes the tenth year of publication of the journal “LIFELONG EDUCATION: The 21st CENTURY”. We can draw some conclusions. The journal is published quarterly, with at least 40 articles published annually. For ten years, articles by authors from different regions of Russia from Kaliningrad to the Far East and countries of near and far abroad have been published. The journal is registered in the RSCI, ERIHPLUS databases and in the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) system. In 2018, the journal was included in the List of peer-reviewed scientific publications of the Higher Attestation Commission, in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Science and for the degree of Doctor of Science should be published. In 2022 the journal status in the group of scientific specialties 5.8 Pedagogy was confirmed. According to the coefficient of scientific significance, the journal entered the K1 category (25% of the best journals).

What new materials will the reader find in the December issue of the magazine?

The section devoted to the theoretical and methodological foundations for the development of lifelong education contains articles on various topics. They are united by the debatable nature of the issues under discussion, such as: the strategy of advanced development of Russian education in a post-capitalist society, myth-making in the education system, higher secular theological education, the formation of an ecological culture of society and personality.

Among the materials related to innovative approaches in education, the interest of specialists may be attracted by an article that proposes a methodological solution to such a problem as assessing the competencies of engineering educational programs. Methodological approaches to assessing the results of higher education in the context of a competency-based approach can be also useful for specialists in other areas of training.

Two other articles discuss innovations in teaching foreign languages: one of them deals with the use of modern technical means (PACT student body) to assess typical mistakes of Russian-speaking students in texts in German, the other deals with the integrated development of Russian speaking skills among Chinese students

Under the heading “Management in Education…” there is an unusual publication about the activities of the Karelian-Finnish State University in the evacuation (1941‒1944). In the most difficult wartime conditions, correct management decisions made it possible not only to preserve the young university, but also to ensure the improvement of its educational and scientific work, the development of human resources, and the expansion of areas for training specialists in accordance with the needs for certain personnel.

Currently, active development of the system of secondary vocational education continues in Russia. How successful is this process, how does it meet the needs of the labor market? The authors of the article in the corresponding section of the issue discuss the results of the study of the problem based on the materials of the Murmansk region.

And another urgent problem of modern general education is the profile training of students in high schools. The problem is debatable, having both supporters and opponents. One of the profiles is pedagogical, which is designed to attract the attention of young people to the teaching profession. Seems like a good idea. But to what extent its implementation is provided with personnel and methodically, in order not to transfer university pedagogical disciplines to school education, what requirements should a teacher of pre-professional pedagogical training meet? In this issue, the reader is offered a discussion of a diagnostic toolkit for assessing the professional surpluses of specialists in this field.

We wish you interesting reading and thank domestic and foreign authors, reviewers and readers who have been collaborating  with the journal during these ten years, contributing to the innovative development of lifelong education.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

In the coming 2023, let peace, prosperity and creativity accompany everyone!
