The 32nd issue closes the 8th year of publishing the "Lifelong Education: XXI century" digital scientific journal carried within the frames of the Development Program of basic Petrozavodsk State University. For a number of years the journal has been ranked among the top twenty of more than two hundred pedagogical publications on the topic "Public Education. Pedagogy." in SCIENCE INDEX journal rating registered in elibrary.

What kind of materials a reader could find in the December issue?

In the article written by the professor of Scandinavian Institute for Academic Mobility (Finland) two educational strategic directions in Finland and Russia are analyzed from the point of comparative approach, namely professional and politicized ones.  In the first approach "purely educational" issues are accumulated, the second one is connected with research practice on social problems and controversy in everyday life of educational institutions in the context of dichotomy "social advantaged - social disadvantaged" for the purpose of their further extrapolation in the sphere of political discourse. The article presents the analysis of the digital and distance learning controversy in the Russian-speaking professional field and social problems stemming from the digital educational transformations.

This year the Scientific Council on environmental education of the Russian Academy of Education commemorates the 50th anniversary since its foundation. The Council unites scholars and practitioners-enthusiasts who take part in establishing the formation of the environmental education for sustainable development - from preschool level up to training and retraining pedagogical staff. The articles written by the members of the Council from different regions of Russia called for readers attention were published in our journal more than once. The anniversary is always the reason not only recall the main events and sum up, but also shape plans for the future. The article written by the Council leaders revealing the history and perspectives of continuous ecological education is published in the current issue

The professional educators proceed the actual discussion focusing on the problems of digital and distant education. Some new ways of teaching are being tried and tested; this issue is covered in a few of the articles presenting this topic. The results of the study of distance learning for high school students are studied from an unexpected angle, based on teenagers correspondence in social networks.

Yet again we publish the article from the Tomas Bata University (Zlin, Czech Republic). The article views the peculiarities of the so called social helping professions. It focuses upon  professional resilience as a key property for individual ability to regain after stressful situations and  work pressure. The author comes to the conclusion that it is important not only study the level of professional resilience but also try to develop this personal property of the would-to-be specialists.

The issues of independent learning activities are presented in the article devoted to foreign language reading competency development. The solution to this problem is linked with metacognitivism. The metacognitive approach is actual for lifelong learning  because the learners have to develop self-assessment both for university studies and future professions.

In a new issue of the journal the interrelation of labor market development and lifelong education is viewed. In one of the articles the authors present the scientific-methodological baselines of regional system development for future teachers aimed at perfectibility of the interaction between the state authorities, business communities, educational institutions, and general public which helps to level the gap on the local labor markets.
