Abstract: this article presents the development of the ideas of the so-called «provocative» approach to career guidance. This approach is based on the hypothesis that the subject of self-determination actually experiences a lack of motives, and not a shortage of career-oriented resources. Previously, we have shown three reasons why the need for self-determination may be poorly formulated or absent at all [4]. However, the question of what internal processes can (or should) form the motivation of the subject of self-determination remained unclear. What will change if we consider it as a psychological functional system that can serve not only local behavior in stable conditions, but also long-term activities in situations of high complexity and uncertainty? To solve this question, we have proposed a two-level model of motivation that explains both the development and the decline of human activity in making and implementing vital choices in conditions with a large number of uncertain factors and consequences.
Practical use of the described model makes it possible to develop effective measures to motivate subjects of self-determination and build long-term productive work with them.
