Abstract: the article focuses on the goals and specific features of teaching physics to undergraduate engineering students at a regional university with a particular attention to the solution of the problem of students' adaptation to university and their self-study work. In this regard, the authors suggest the extensive use of distance learning as an innovative educational tool. The article discusses the effectiveness of e-learning and ways to evaluate its outcomes.
The authors analyze the implementation of the on-line educational module "Mechanics and Molecular Physics" based on the Blackboard platform. The module is designed to organize and guide on-line learning among students of the Physics Faculty using the distance learning tools and technologies. The paper presents an analysis of learning results and the opportunities of the Blackboard platform for students' independent work.
The authors focus on assessing the effectiveness of e-learning with the use of an on-line educational module. The conducted questionnaire survey and certain Blackboard tools allowed to evaluate learning outcomes and to analyze students' motivation to study physics, their attitude toward on-line learning and their independent work efforts.
