Abstract: the main condition for maintaining human health is sobriety. But a sober worldview is not formed by itself. Today, the promotion of a pro-alcoholic lifestyle is quite strong, but the pedagogical and methodological support of the process of forming sobriety is clearly insufficient. The article is devoted to the problem of teaching the basics of sobriety and the development of a textbook «Fundamentals of life safety. The sobriety theory». The purpose of the study is to develop the textbook structure and substantiate the knowledge system for the content of the textbook «Fundamentals of life safety. The sobriety theory» in accordance with the idea of maintaining sobriety. In the review part, the author reveals the features of sobriety textbooks of the 19th and 20th centuries, identifies and describes the main approach to selecting the content of sobriety textbooks in the past and in the present. The theoretical significance of the work consists in the development of the theory of sobriety. This work will be useful for teachers, teachers of housing and communal services, classroom teachers, teachers of elective courses and other interested specialists.
