Abstract: the article presents the theoretical and methodological aspects of the implementation of the fundamentals and principles of the project approach in order to improve the effectiveness of professional training, professional socialization of students of a sports university. The project approach is considered as the methodological basis determining the formation of the necessary competencies. The content of the project work in practice was the creation of an electronic educational resource containing socially significant content popularizing sports, tourism and hospitality, as well as forming a civil-patriotic position and value attitude towards their own profession among its creators. The technological basis of the project work was represented by the team production of socially significant audiovisual content, during which not only cultural and professional exchange takes place, but also immersion in the circumstances of professional activity. A number of conditions of project activity are named: structuring and phased implementation and others. The stages and content of students' project activities in video production technology are defined. Based on piloting project activities to create an audiovisual product to promote certain socially significant objects, positive changes in the professional competencies of students are identified, which are considered by the authors as promising lines of continuation of the study.
