Dear authors and readers of our magazine! We greet everyone in the new academic year and wish you every success in all your educational activities including development of promising areas of scientific research and implementation research results into the practice of lifelong learning.

Pedagogical community is concerned about the upcoming changes connected with the change in scientific majors. Hopefully, this process will be as painless as possible and will serve the development of science. To solve this problem we need broad discussion with all interested parties involved. In connection with the above, we draw the reader attention to an article devoted to the theoretical and methodological foundations of certification of updated scientific specialties of a pedagogical profile.

In modern scientific research, the interaction of specialists from different scientific fields in the implementation of complex projects seems to be promising. The article devoted to an integrated approach to solving the problem of maintaining and improving the health status of the population of the region, presents the results of an interdisciplinary solution to the specific problem of overcoming iodine deficiency in the Republic of Karelia, which is relevant for many regions of Russia.

Several articles in the fall issue of the magazine continue to discuss the problem of distance learning in the aspect of blended education. The authors of two articles raise the issue of the specifics of working with foreign students. The search for optimal ways to resolve this issue is becoming more and more relevant for Russian universities in view of expanding the scope of international cooperation.

The section on management in education contains two articles. One is devoted to the factors of psychological well-being of students of Russian universities in conditions of self-isolation. Another one presents the results of  organizing the work of regional innovation platforms.

The admissions campaign in 2021 brought a lot of, obviously unnecessary, hassle to both high school applicants and their parents, and the universities themselves. As a result, some of the applicants found themselves not in the priority areas of training for them, universities are forced to announce additional enrollments, etc. How serious is the problem of the migration outflow of graduates of regional schools in connection with admission to universities based on the USE results? This question is answered by the authors of one of the articles in this issue.

After a significant break in the section on the vocabulary of modern lifelong education, an article appeared on the modern understanding of the concepts of «competence» and «skill». The author reviewed the materials of Russian and foreign studies.

Unfortunately, the prestige of the teaching profession is low in modern Russian society. There are many reasons for this ‒ low wages, shortcomings in the work of the media, low quality of work of some teachers, often associated with inadequate academic and extracurricular workload, and others. In the section devoted to the personnel and methodological resources of continuing education, an article is posted on the factors that reduce the effectiveness of teaching activities in the departmental university of the Ministry of Emergencies.

We draw the attention of potential authors to the problems of the journal (continuing education) and compliance with the requirements for the design of articles.

Congratulations to all fellow teachers on the upcoming International Teachers' Day! We wish you new creative achievements in the field of lifelong learning and look forward to new articles.
