Abstract: the article presents the results of a study aimed at identifying and systematically analyzing the key stages of the transformation of the archival education paradigm in Russia, which consists of the transition from the Soviet model of an «ideological fighter» to the model of a «digital heritage curator». The methodology is based on historical-systemic and comparative-historical approaches, as well as the modeling method for reconstructing the professional competencies of an archivist. The analysis revealed the system-forming elements of each model: for the Soviet period – the dominance of ideological control, party censorship, limited access to documents; for the modern period – a focus on public accessibility of information, digital technologies, data skills, and the development of communication competencies. It has been established that the modern transformation is profound, affecting the very essence of the profession, which is evolving from a custodian-controller to an active mediator in the digital environment. The contribution of the study lies in the development of a holistic concept of paradigm shift, which can serve as a theoretical basis for modernizing educational standards and forecasting the development of the profession.
